Man, the wait is absolutely brutal right now. If you haven’t circled December 12th on your calendar yet, you need to get on that. At 11 AM PST, the gates finally open for the "Last of the Druids" update in Path of Exile 2. I managed to get some hands-on time with the Druid class earlier this week, and it’s honestly wild how fluid it feels compared to the clunky shapeshifting we usually see in ARPGs. You aren't getting locked into long animations while a boss winds up a one-shot mechanic anymore. Since this is a fresh league start, the economy is going to be a bit chaotic. A lot of players like to grab some PoE 2 Currency ahead of time just to avoid the headache of grinding every single scroll during the campaign, which lets you focus entirely on learning the new mechanics. It’s not just about turning into a bear; it’s about how smooth the whole experience plays out.
The real game-changer here is the new Talisman system. It makes swapping forms instant, which changes the rhythm of combat entirely. I was messing around with a STR/INT hybrid setup during the playtest, and the synergy is nuts. You can cast a human-form spell like Volcano—which leaves these massive magma craters on the ground—and then immediately shift into Bear form without missing a beat. The spell stays active, which is huge for DPS. My favorite combo was dropping a Volcano and then using the Bear’s "Furious Slam" right next to it. The physics interaction triggers massive explosions that just melted early bosses like Lachlann. It feels heavy and impactful, exactly how a tanky build should feel when you pull off the execution perfectly.
If you aren't into the slow, heavy hits, the Wolf form is probably more your speed. It runs on a resource called Moon Energy and feels perfect for zooming through dense map packs. I found a nice rhythm using Entangle to root mobs in place, then swapping to Wolf to shred them with rapid freeze attacks. It’s super snappy. Then you’ve got the Wyvern, which is basically an aerial bomber. You burn Power Charges to stay in the air and rain down lightning, adding a layer of verticality we haven't really seen in Wraeclast before. With the "Fate of the Vaal" mechanics bringing back those Incursion-style temples, having that kind of mobility is gonna be clutch for clearing rooms before the timer runs out.
Just a heads-up for everyone gearing up: the servers go live globally at the same time. That’s 2 PM for the East Coast crew and evening for the EU. Since the ladder is resetting, we’re all starting from zero, so the trade market is gonna be the Wild West for a few days. If you’re trying to craft high-end gear immediately, finding a single exalted orb can feel like winning the lottery, so plan your starter build accordingly. There’s also a free weekend running from Dec 12-15, so tell your friends to hop in risk-free if they've been on the fence. I’ll see you guys in the queue—I’ll be the bear causing explosions.
